A call is a call whether it lasts 40 seconds or 6 minutes, and 2am costs the same as 2pm. OnCrew is young: a handful of contractors pay for it today, so treat this as a small company that publishes its numbers rather than a large one.

03Where OnCrew differs

Why contractors compare Sameday AI to OnCrew

  • 01

    Decide sales-first or answering-first

Sameday leads with AI that sells and books on the call. OnCrew leads with reliable pickup, contractor intake, and urgent-call handoffs. Run the same sample calls through both and compare what each captures and hands off.

  • 02

    Test urgent-call handoffs

Run no-heat, active-leak, electrical, roof-damage, estimate, warranty, and financing calls through the demo. Compare captured fields, transcript quality, handoff timing, and acknowledgement workflow.

  • 03

Model pricing against real call volume

OnCrew publishes included-call plans and $0.99 per-call overage after the plan limit. Sameday's plans start at $449 a month for 500 minutes and print no rate past the plan, so ask what a busy month costs before comparing.

  • 04

Compare entry price against your stage

A one-truck shop fielding 60 calls a month has different economics than a multi-crew operation. Compare each vendor's entry plan against your actual volume before committing to a higher-priced tier.

  • 05

    Verify on-call handoff channels

Owner-operator and small-team contractors run on-call rotations. Ask each platform where urgent-call details go and what happens if the first person does not acknowledge the handoff.

  • 06

    Compare field-software booking

Sameday schedules appointments into ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro and Jobber through its integrations. OnCrew connects Housecall Pro from the dashboard on Housecall Pro's own MAX plan and sends Jobber and ServiceTitan one record per call through the webhook export, without booking onto their schedule. If booking into your field software on the call is the requirement, weigh that first.

04How a call runs

How OnCrew handles a contractor call

The flow to compare against a sales-agent-first AI workflow.

  1. Call hits your business number

Keep your number. Forward your line full-time, or only after-hours, or only on overflow. OnCrew picks up when your team cannot.

  2. AI greets in your business name and qualifies

The caller hears a configured greeting in your business name. The AI asks contractor intake questions and captures name, address, and problem details.

  3. Configured urgent-call review

OnCrew can flag configured urgent categories such as no heat, active leaks, electrical hazards, and roof damage for team review. Routine calls queue for normal follow-up.

  4. Your team gets the call

Intake plus transcript goes to the channel you chose. A person on your team calls back and decides what happens next. OnCrew does not promise dispatch times or commit to a job on its own.

05Deep dive

Same buyer, different design centers

Sameday and OnCrew both serve home-service businesses, which makes the design-center question sharper: Sameday leads with an AI sales agent that books and sells on the call, while OnCrew leads with answering-first intake, transcripts, and urgent-call handoffs.

Contractor businesses need phone pickup, intake fields, callback context, and urgent-call handoffs. Test the same after-hours calls in both systems before deciding.

Trade-specific intake to test in the demo

A contractor demo should include no-heat, active-leak, electrical, roofing, estimate, warranty, and financing calls. Compare what each product captures and where the handoff goes.

OnCrew can be configured around contractor call patterns. During evaluation, review captured fields, transcripts, and handoff timing.

On-call handoffs that fit contractor teams

Owner-operator and small-team contractors run on-call rotations. The practical question is where urgent-call details go and what happens if the first person does not acknowledge the message.

OnCrew sends configured urgent-call handoffs to the team channel you choose with caller name, address, problem, and transcript. A person on your team decides whether to dispatch.

When Sameday AI is still the right pick

If your primary need is an AI agent that schedules appointments on the call straight into ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or Jobber, Sameday's integrations do that and OnCrew's do not. Check that its minute-sized plans fit your volume.

For a contractor phone line that needs pickup, configured intake, transcripts, and urgent-call handoffs, compare OnCrew against the current Sameday quote and demo output.

07Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Sameday AI and OnCrew?

Sameday AI positions itself as an AI sales agent for home-service businesses, with an emphasis on booking and selling on the call. OnCrew is an AI receptionist configured for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and roofing intake, transcripts, and urgent-call handoffs, with published included-call plans from $49/month.

How does Sameday AI compare to OnCrew on price?

Sameday sells monthly plans sized in minutes. On sameday.ai/pricing, read October 2, 2026, Launch starts at $449 a month with 500 minutes, Scale at $789 a month with 1,000 minutes, and Enterprise is custom; no rate for minutes past the plan is printed, and sign-up is through a scheduled demo. OnCrew bills by the call: Starter is $49/mo with 100 included calls, Pro is $149 for 400 calls, Multi-Truck is $349 for 1,000 calls, with $0.99 per-call overage after the plan limit.

How should contractors compare urgent-call handoffs?

Ask each provider how no-heat, active-leak, electrical, and roof-damage calls are identified, where the handoff goes, whether a transcript is included, and what happens if no one acknowledges the message. OnCrew can flag configured urgent contractor calls and send the handoff to your chosen team channel.

Is a sales-focused AI agent the same as an answering service?

Not exactly. A sales-focused AI agent is optimized to close bookings on the call. An answering-first service is optimized to pick up reliably, capture intake fields, and route urgent calls to a person on your team. Decide which failure you care about more: a missed booking or a mishandled emergency call, then test both flows.

How fast can I switch from Sameday AI to OnCrew?

You can keep your existing business number and forward calls to OnCrew full-time, after hours, or on overflow. Setup timing depends on number forwarding, call flow, trade questions, and handoff configuration.

Is OnCrew safe for after-hours calls?

OnCrew can pick up your business line 24/7 when configured for full-time coverage, or only after hours when configured that way. It captures intake, can flag configured urgent-call categories, and sends a team handoff. A person on your team makes the dispatch decision.

Founder, OnCrew · Los Angeles, CA

“I built OnCrew after watching my brother’s plumbing crew miss two urgent jobs in one night because their answering service kept callers on hold. Setting up your line takes about 10 minutes on your own. If you get stuck, reply to any OnCrew email and I’ll walk you through it. I won’t hand you off to a sales rep, and I read every refund request myself.”
